Moxa: mugwart is used to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi, and maintain general health. Not a big fan of it for me in clinic but I find it very useful when I send patients home with it.

Check out this really great talk on moxa here by Yin Yang Podcast:

PC6 内关 ” the inner gate”

One of my all time favorite acupuncture points. PC6 or inner gate is located 2 finger breadths above the wrist crease between the tendons palmaris longus and flexor carpi radialis. Modern research has shown it is effective   in postoperative nausea and vomiting. [1]

According to Chinese medicine theory
this point has actions on the stomach, the chest, and the emotions. It is the number one point on the body for treating nausea or vomiting of any kind – seasickness, morning sickness, chemotherapy-induced nausea, or a stomach flu.

Me and nei guan have had many great adventures together. It was there to stop the nausea and retching during my dad’s chemo treatments and got my wife through a rough first trimester of pregnancy.

I remember one time I had a person come into clinic complaining about hiccups and bloating and I remember nei guan being good for that type of stuff. After treatment she felt better right away but couldn’t stop farting. We all had a good laugh afterward. True story.
